on may 21st mikrogalleriet and friends will arrange a copenhagen version of bring your own beamer (BYOB) in kunsthal nikolaj. this edition of BYOB is part of the fokus video festival.

BYOB is a series of one-night-exhibitions curated by different people around the world.

the idea is simple:

• find a place
• invite many artists
• ask them to bring their projectors

BYOB is an exploration of the medium of projection, a celebration of the new world we live in and a glimpse of what computing could look like in the future.

today the internet is confined to screens. tomorrow information will surround us, composing our surfaces, defining our spaces, enmeshing itself with the ether. a moving image is never an object, and when it is coupled with the increased flexibility of portable projection, the realm of experience quickly expands.

BYOB is an open idea, and the more it happens the better! in nikolaj contemporary art center it is presented by david gauthier, jacob sikker remin / mikrogalleriet and majken overgaard. the concept was originally developed by rafaël rozendaal.

exhibit opens 5 pm on november 18th, and runs from november 19th to 27th. opening hours: thursday through saturday from 1 to 6 pm.

this will be the last exhibit in gormsgade 9.

we will present ole kristensens “work in progress” i cooperation with black box gallery and gallery brunnhofer. “work in progress” will be on display in gallery brunnhofer during the festival, along with 3 pixel fades made by mikrogalleriets curator jacob sikker remin.

jacob sikker remin will also exhibit his fluorescent light tube installation “kuben” at the main exhibition of ars electronica.

its going to be a fun packed evening:

videomusik will play. la belle indifference will play, and exhibit some of their home built instruments and installations. there will be a showing of raquel meyers brand new music video for the track pink snow. there will be beer and 8bit coffee.

the book and map from the GET LOST project is now finally out. the book offers an interesting view on the alternative side of copenhagen, and covers “49cm“, the very first show in mikrogalleriet.

100 physical copies will be sold from the danish architectural centers book store, and a digital version is available online.

“the post-tropical” is a sound and video installation inspired by a recent series of field recordings made on the large island of hawaii. while making these recordings i was struck by the beauty of the flickering night sounds, a series of interlocking patterns that is not unlike the sound of synaptic firings i’ve encountered in my previous brainwave generated music. what i thought was a natural beauty, however, was in fact a hybridization of species that were indigenous and foreign to the ecosystem. some 10 years earlier, the multinational corporation wal-mart accidentally introduced frogs that are indigenous to the dominican republic / puerto rico within a shipment of packaged plants and soil. ultimately these frogs multiplied exponentially in hawaii in an environment without any natural predators. this installation is a meditation upon received notions of “nature” within a post-industrial and globalized world.

BIO
zach layton is a composer, curator, improviser and new media artist based in brooklyn with an interest in biofeedback, generative algorithms, experimental music, dada and chance. his work investigates complex relationships and topologies created through the interaction of simple core elements like sine waves, minimal surfaces and kinetic visual patterns.

zach’s work has been performed by the cleveland chamber symphony and he has performed and exhibited at the kitchen, roulette, joe’s pub, exit art, art forum berlin, new york electronic art festival, yerba buena center for the arts, eyebeam, sculpture center, diapason, issue project room, millenium film workshop, bushwick arts project, st. mark’s ontological theater, dumbo arts festival, new york digital salon, miguel abreu gallery, participant gallery, monkeytown and many other venues in new york, south america and europe. he has collaborated with luke dubois, vito acconci, joshua white, jonas mekas, bradley eros, andy graydon, nick hallett, matthew ostrowski, michael evans, mv carbon, seth kirby, matthew welch, christine bard, alex waterman, ryan sawyer, scott draves, emily manzo, patrick hambrect, marissa olsen, angie eng, adam kendall, chika ijima, peter gordon, tristan perich and ray sweeten among many other artists, filmmakers, curators and musicians.

zach is also founder of brooklyn’s monthly experimental music series, “darmstadt: classics of the avant garde” co-curated with nick hallett featuring leading local and international composers and improvisers, co-curator of the ps1 summer warmup music series and the chief curator of issue project room. zach has received grants from the netherlands america foundation, turbulence and the jerome foundation and is a graduate of the oberlin conservatory and the interactive telecommunications program.
